The Princess Turns Four

Hard to believe my baby turns 4 tomorrow... we had a nice little party for her. It was so nice and simple. For the first time I truly didn't worry about having great decorations or making the perfect cake. I just hung up some pink baloons and got a few princess things from the dollar store and a store bought cake and you know, Marah was so thrilled. She thought it was all amazing and I think I've heard "thank you for my pink birthday" about thirty times today. Ah, my girl.

....

Not much to say today. I'm just tired. It was my first day without Eric here and I had all three kids for the first time too. It was difficult. I know I'll get used to it and get into a routine soon enough. Just praying for patience.

Tomorrow is Marah's birthday party. My sweet little girl is turning 4! I know she's very much looking forward to a day all about her. I think she needs it right now. I could feel her frustration today over having to wait for me whenever I was dealing with Alex.

Here's your baby eye candy for today :)

chillin

We're just hanging out at home today, getting used to a new baby and remembering how much attention they require! It has been a long day but I really have enjoyed it. I don't think I would have enjoyed it as much if the girls had been here though! Last night went very well though, so that made the lack of being able to nap today bearable. He slept from about 11 pm to 3:30 am and then from 4:30 am to 6:30 am. That was much better than he would have slept in the hospital so I'm definitely happy with my decision to come home.

Gotta run! But not without a teeny bit of eyecandy :)

I got some more pics

Having a new baby in the house doesn't leave me much time for updating with words but I did edit a few pictures for ya. Alex is doing great. He's a really contented baby so far. He's alert and just taking it all in.

I am tired. I hardly slept at all at the hospital so I decided to come home early. I was getting tired of having nurses come in and waking us up all the time. I could not sleep in the hospital. I've never had that problem before but this time it was pretty bad. I think from the time I checked in at 6:30 on Saturday night until I came home about 2 this afternoon I had gotten about 5 hours of sleep. Maybe 6. I've already gotten in a couple hours since coming home and I slept well, so I'm happy with the choice to come home. And Dick and Terri took the girls for the next two nights which I wasn't expecting, so I'm a very happy camper. We are just enjoying bonding with Alex right now.

The girls think he's just too sweet (which he is). Marah keeps saying "Aw mom, he's so cute!" They are both in awe of the breastfeeding and Jenna thinks it's funny. Jenna also does not like the poopy diapers or his umbilical cord stump. She said they make her nervous.

Alex was born at 11:59 am on Sunday, September 21. He weighed in at 7 lbs. 3 oz. and was 20 inches long. My labor was pretty easy for the most part. I had an epidural at about 9:30 and two hours later was ready to push. Got him out in 4 contractions so yeah, I pretty much rock. :)

We couldn't figure out who he looked like when we were in the hospital. But today his features started changing and now I've decided he definitely looks like Jenna as a newborn. Except he has lighter hair. Isn't he sweet?

a great source of fun

The girls and I made our own play-do yesterday and I am so happy with how it turned out! I had never made it before and always thought it would be a big pain, but it was really easy and fun. I quadrupled the recipe and then split the final result into four sections so that we could make four different colors. Luckily I had lots of food coloring on hand (the result of ambitious baking ideas that never come to fruition LOL) and the girls each picked two colors.

Add rolling pins, cookie cutters, knives, forks, pizza cutter and you have (so far) hours of fun! Seriously I think they have spent a total of four hours over the last two days playing with the stuff and really just mostly being quiet but also being creative and playing and talking together. It's been really enjoyable for me as well and I've been able to focus on other things that I need to get done while they are happy and not bugging me.

Okay, and you have to see how tiny my girl is! See that shirt she is wearing above? Check it:

Yeah, that was taken during Marah's second Christmas. She is 1 year and three months old in this photo. And you know what? She is also wearing those exact same jeans today as well! They came with a large cuff sewn in, so I just let them out so her waist size is very close to the same, she's just gotten taller.

And then I found this:

Bwahahaha! I have quite a few shots of Marah looking like this actually :) Nice huh?

Anyway, I was just thinking that this is how small Alex will be for his first Christmas. It's kinda neat that Alex and Marah will share birthdays so close to one another. Then I can compare how they look at certain holidays and stuff like that. I don't know, I just thought that was cool.

Okay, gotta run!

40 weeks

Most likely I'll be induced on Saturday night! So unless Alex decides to make his appearance before then the birthdate will probably be Sunday, September 21st.

That's Amore

The girls decided to play pizza parlour this morning and set up a little blanket in their room and made signs for their restaurant. At first the pizzas were going to be priced at $1 each but Jenna told me I had to pay her real money so she changed the prices to 5 cents when I told her that's all I had in cash LOL! Who carries cash anymore?!

Once the place was set up they got to work making their pizzas.

They had a great time making those :)

After that I made a banana bread mix... won't do that again. Not even close to homemade. Which makes me wonder how much more I might like certain things if I made them from scratch. Like blueberry muffins. I've never made my own, but I think I should.

Got through Jenna's writing and some reading before she got antsy and needed a break. That's one thing I love about having her home for learning. I can let her take a break when she needs to. So I sent her and Marah outside. They have basically complained the entire time they've been out there. They want to come in and play! I thought I was doing good to get them dressed and out in the sunshine. We won't have many days like this left this year. We've really been cooped up for almost a week since everyone has been sick and no one feels up to getting dressed and going outside. We all have just been snuggling around the house with blankets and movies!

I have an appointment with my OB tomorrow morning so hopefully I'll get an induction date set up here in case Alex decides to settle in for good.

Unpacking is still going on around here. I really need to get this cabinet painted and fixed up so that I can unpack a bunch of these boxes that are simply awaiting their storage space. Otherwise I'm just taking things one to two boxes a day which is more than enough to tackle on top of the laundry and dishes and bathroom and everything else. So I wish I were already done with it all but I'm feeling good knowing that it is getting done in baby steps rather than letting it overwhelm me and just not doing it at all.

Having all these windows and so much sunshine coming in all the time just makes such a difference in how I feel everyday. I notice such a difference if I don't open the blinds first thing in the morning. When I let the sun in I feel so much more motivated to get stuff done. If I leave them closed I am just so tempted to be lazy. So that's my rule for first thing in the morning: Open those blinds!

Alright, I better go. Kids need lunch and I need a nap badly!

Tomorrow

Tomorrow is the 15th... as in my due date. You know, it's no fun being late with every pregnancy. I really had hoped that this time I would go early. It would have been fun to be surprised. But no... my kids just want to stay in there. And I don't blame them. It must be nice to be all snug and warm and sleepy.

We are all sick now. Jenna included. I'm going to be really bummed if the kids can't come see Alex in the hospital, I didn't have Jenna visit when Marah was born because she had major hospital anxiety so I didn't think she'd be able to handle seeing any IVs or whatever. But now they are both fine with that sort of thing and so I really want to have that moment in the hospital, if they're sick it won't be happening.

I'm pretty sure that Eric has bronchitis. His coughing fits remind me of when I had it. They are so bad. It's just miserable to listen to. I feel terrible for him. Last night I finally decided that was probably what he has (yes, I am almost as good as having a doctor around LOL) and had him try using my inhaler. I don't know if it's a coincidence or what but he slept very well last night with pretty much no coughing. So I'm hoping the inhaler will really be helpful. I did look it up and found info about inhalers helping with acute bronchitis. So this may be just what he needed.

Anyway, I really don't want to go into labor until my head cold clears up a bit. So at this point I guess it's good that he's taking his time. I wouldn't want him coming home to all these germs either, so I'm glad that we're getting all this sick stuff over with before he comes home.

Okay, I'm tired. I'm gonna have a little nap :)

September 13, 2008

sick and tired

We are all sick and tired. Well, all but Jenna. So far she has escaped the wrath of this nasty bug going through our house. Eric has caught the brunt of it and has been sick for about 2 weeks, poor guy. His cough is so bad our downstairs neighbor commented to me about it! LOL

About two days ago Marah started feeling sick and then yesterday it hit me. So now I am just trying not to worry about the possibility of A.) being sick in the delivery room and B.) having sick family members who won't be able to visit in the hospital :( I really hope that we can all get over this real soon. I've been taking Airborne for three days now in hopes that I'll get better faster. We'll see. Usually these dang colds just last forever.

Marah woke up at 5:50 this morning, sounding completely miserable. So I'm exhausted and just needing a nap. Today is supposed to be my day to vacuum and sweep and clean the bathroom and stuff but I'm not feeling like it's going to happen. I'll try though. Just one thing at a time.

I hope everyone else is feeling better than I am. Pray for my quick recovery :) Love to all!

lazing...

We've really had a pretty lazy weekend. I didn't feel well yesterday so nothing got done.

I'm procrastinating... I should be getting ready to get out of the house. We have things to do but instead I'm sitting here in my pj's at 1:30. I finally got the girls dressed. Eric is napping. It's one of those days where I don't feel like we're getting started until the late afternoon.

We did make muffins and a cranberry orange loaf, did some math, got two loads of laundry done, picked up around the house, made a blanket fort, had a picnic... I guess we did more than I realized. Okay, I feel better :)

I don't have much else to say. I've been having lots of contractions but nothing progressive enough to go anywhere. So now that Eric returns to work tomorrow I'll be holding out hope that Alex stays put for four more days.

Some photos:

The girls had a movie at bedtime night in their room. They watched The Rescuers which I had just picked up at the thrift store for $1.50.

this takes a lot out of me

The littlest things take so much out of me now. We went to church this morning which was tough. I really wanted to not go today, but it was the first day of Sunday School for the kids plus I could choose not to go every Sunday if I let myself. I'm always happy I went though. It was a great service and the kids really enjoyed Sunday School so it was well worth the effort of getting up on a cool Sunday morning and rushing around to get everyone out the door on time. I make coffee almost every Sunday morning and then never drink any cause I'm just too busy! I was wishing I had that coffee in my system as they turned the lights down low for the last 15 minutes!

After church the girls had a birthday party for our former next door neighbor and it was at the indoor water park. I had to stick around for the party since there were a ton of kids there and I certainly couldn't leave Marah there alone. Marah was really timid about the water at first. I'm sure to a 3 year old that place is HUGE! She eventually worked up the courage to go down one of the big tube slides and from then on that was all she did over and over, walking up the stairs to the tube slide and looking completely overjoyed everytime she came out the bottom! Of course I forgot my camera... stupid!

Just walking around in that over chlorinated room with the humidity completely wore me out. Marah is exhausted and the girls are in their room watching Dumbo right now. I'm sure Marah is probably sleeping and will be up all night now... oh well.

And Ryan, this is a duplex, not an apartment. I'm sensitive to that issue LOL And we pay $675 a month.

can't you tell

So okay, now that I've finally found my card reader I've got all the photos to share. Now these are pretty much all from today. Can you tell I feel renewed in my new space? :)

We went down to the river today. We live very close to the Red River and there is a very pretty drive down to our home that takes you by the river. I just love going that way.

Typical Marah gives me attitude right off the bat.

There were crickets EVERYWHERE! The girls were pretty jumpy.

More Marah attitude

and two seconds later!

Checking out those crickets

Getting way too close to the edge for my comfort

No longer on the North Dakota side of the river

Marah is actually up a lot higher than she looks in this photo. Jenna is on a cement block about 2.5 feet high. So you can see how nervous Marah was! She's a good sport though. Of course my memory card was full at this point which was so disappointing cause I really wanted to try more angles but oh well.

We really did enjoy our day.
